How to attach stamens to flower stems

This tutorial shows you how to attach stamens to flower stems. This is one of the basic techniques you need to learn for making nylon flowers.

The equipment and materials needed for this tutorial is show below:

These instructions complement the video tutorial.

Steps:

  1. The green florist wire (Gauge 12) is used as the flower stem.
Using the plier bend the end of the florist wire into a hook.
  2. Taking the flower stamens, hook them onto the hook of the florist wire.
  3. Using nylon threads, tie the flower stamen to the florist wire.
  4. Using florist tape bind the flower stamen to the florist wire. Once this is done the flower stamen is then securely attached to the florist wires.
You can then proceed to attach the flower petals to complete your design.

These instructions complement the video tutorial.

Steps:

  1. The green florist wire (Gauge 12) is used as the flower stem.
Using the plier bend the end of the florist wire into a hook.
  2. Taking the end of the florist wires (that has the hook) push it into the base of the (white) foam rose bud.
  3. Wrap the nylon around the foam rose bud, the more times you wrap the nylon around the foam rose bud, the darker the colour. In the tutorial, the nylon fabric is wrapped around the white foam bud three times (you may choose to wrap it less or more times).
  4. Using nylon thread tie the nylon to the florist wire.
  5. Using scissors, cut away the surplus nylon fabric at the base of the foam rose bud.
  6. Using nylon thread tie the flower stamen to the florist wire at the base of the foam rose bud.
